Incorporated in 1959, Palos Heights has remained a relatively small community with 12,960 people living in a 3 square mile area. Outstanding public and private schools, churches, a beautiful new public library, and excellent public services have always made Palos Heights an ideal place to call home.
The inviting nature of Palos Heights can be attributed to the great pride that its people have in their community. From local residents, businesses, civic organizations and students volunteering to beautify the community to the Chamber of Commerce funding college scholarships, Palos Heights just seems to nurture loyalty.
The community is also welcoming to guests, whether they are staying with friends or family or just passing through. The Palos Heights downtown business district is home to the Olde Palos Shopping Center, where shoppers can enjoy a cup of coffee or browse for a wide variety of merchandise, from picture frames to wedding dresses.
Nature lovers will also find plenty to do. The city is home to the Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens, which boasts 125 acres of fresh water, wooded trails, gardens and open space. Lake Katherine offers nesting areas for migratory waterfowl and refuge for many different species of wildlife, including fox, deer, beaver, red fox and more.
Residents and guests alike looking for some summer fun can make their way to Memorial Park for free concerts in the Gazebo. Palos Heights offers a variety of fun activities for people of all ages.
Thanks to an abundance of natural beauty, careful planning and a lively spirit of cooperation, Palos Heights has become an outstanding place to live, learn, work, play and grow. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a life-long resident, we hope you’ll enjoy our community for years to come.
