The McCord Gallery and Cultural Center
A Welcoming Home for the Arts
Since 2004 the McCord Gallery andCulturalCenter, located in the beautiful and pastoralvillageofPalosPark, has been offering workshops, exhibits, music and art classes to the people of the southwest suburbs ofChicago. When the McCord family farmhouse, built in 1834, came into the village’s possession, a rare opportunity presented itself, and a center for culture and the arts was born to help fill a gap in arts education for both children and adults.
Over the last eight years enrollment in classes has steadily grown, programming for children has increased and special events such as the Civil War exhibit have attracted people from all over the Midwest. Local musicians have given performances in genres ranging from Mozart to Japanese Koto to Cajun and the Blues. The gallery and gift shop have provided a venue for more than two hundred artists and craftspeople to exhibit and sell their work. McCord has become a gathering place for artists and musicians of all ages. While sharing ideas and learning experiences in classes and at special events, artists receive support and encouragement for pursuing their creative goals.
Join us this summer for a fun-filled art project for children and families. Umbrellas for Peace is a global art project for children and adults involving painting and decorating umbrellas. Children and families who participate in this activity will be invited to march with their umbrellas in the Palos Park parade at “Autumn in the Park” on September 15th.
Discover the creative side of life at summer classes beginning the week of June 4 featuring a variety of art classes ranging from drawing to oil painting to jewelry making. In July camps for children of all ages will focus on painting, sculpture and cartooning.
